All You Need To Know Before You Book A Lifestyle Photography Session.

If this is your first foray into lifestyle photography sessions, you may feel a little unsure of what to expect. But don’t worry – I’ve put together a cheat sheet of all the questions I get asked the most. Here you’ll find all the little nuggets of information you need when it comes to booking and preparing for a photoshoot, as well as details about the photographs you’ll be receiving a little while after.

Your General Queries Answered

What type of photography do you do?

Before we delve deeper, I’d like to give you a little introduction to who I am and what I do – just so you can be sure you’ve come to the right place.

I’m Kamila and I’m a lifestyle photographer based in Edinburgh. I specialise in taking natural, candid photographs of couples, parents to be, newborn babies and families, completely free of studio lighting and stage props. My images tell an honest story of what it means to be a part of each family I shoot. You can read about why I chose to be a lifestyle photographer here.

Where do your photoshoots take place?

I take my photographs on location rather than in a studio – this can be either in your home or a place of your choice, often in or around Edinburgh. Local parks and green spaces are popular for outdoor family photoshoots with young children, as they are free to run around and play in the fresh air. Newborn photography sessions tend to take place in the family home as new parents tend to cocoon themselves in the first few weeks after the birth of their baby. The choice, however, is entirely yours!

Outdoor photography sessions are at the mercy of Mother Nature so, if torrential rain, gale force winds or snowstorms are forecast, we’ll rearrange the photoshoot for another date.

What should I wear for my lifestyle photography session?

The choice is yours! You want to feel like yourself – but your best self. Take some time to consider which outfit you feel most comfortable in. The last thing you want to be doing is worrying about what you’re wearing whilst being photographed. By the same token, children should be dressed in a way that allows them to be fully at ease and free to play.

The location of your photoshoot will dictate what you wear to a certain degree. If the session is outdoors, then be sure to wear weather-appropriate clothing – layers and cosy knits to stave off the cold, and light, airy fabrics for warmer weather.

Some people like to have their hair and make-up professionally done for the occasion but don’t feel like you need to as au naturel works just as well!

How much does a lifestyle photography session cost?

The cost of a lifestyle photography session will depend on the type of photoshoot you’re having. Maternity, newborn, family and couples’ photography sessions cost £300. I also offer a ‘bump to baby’ package for £540 which includes two photoshoots – one before and one after the baby has been born.

I ask for a deposit of £80 at the time of booking and the remaining balance to be paid on the day of the photoshoot. Payment can be paid via cash, bank transfer, card or Stripe – whichever is best for you.

As I mentioned, I’m an Edinburgh-based photographer but I am happy to travel further afield to a preferred location. For anywhere outside of Edinburgh I charge travel expenses based on 50 pence per mile, which is to be paid on the day of the photoshoot. Don’t worry, I always try and use the shortest route possible!

What does the cost include?

Roughly a month after the shoot, you’ll get access to a minimum of 30 photographs in a private and secure online gallery. These will be untouched, unless you’re unlucky enough to have developed an unsightly pimple just in time for your session. I don’t offer the RAW, unedited files for purchase. Life often has an unhelpful habit of throwing a spanner in the works. If you’re unable to go ahead with your photoshoot, simply let me know and we can reschedule to a time that suits us all but please be aware that the £80 deposit won’t be refunded if you cancel completely.

I hope this article has cleared up any mysteries surrounding lifestyle photography sessions but, if you have any other questions that I haven’t covered here, feel free to ask away!
