Book a Mother’s Day Lifestyle Photography Session to Capture the Love Between Mother and Child

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, what better way to celebrate than with a lifestyle photoshoot? Being a mother is one of the most rewarding jobs a person can have. It takes a lot of dedication and hard work but the joy that you get in return is immeasurable. My job as a lifestyle photographer is also immensely rewarding as I get to fleetingly be a part of so many families and create unique and meaningful images that can be treasured forever.

In the UK, Mother’s Day—traditionally called Mothering Sunday—falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent. Its origins have been traced back a few hundred years to a time when many children moved away from home to work, often girls in domestic service. Once a year they were expected to travel back to their ‘mother’ church, which meant they were also reunited with their own mothers and family. It spawned a heart-warming tradition of children gathering flowers from the hedgerows on the way to church and presenting their mothers with posies.

The tradition of gifting mothers with flowers lives on. For Mother’s Day photoshoots, I always recommend having a few small flower arrangements dotted around your home – keeping it seasonal with daffodils and tulips, or the customary carnations. These little touches add colour and interest, bringing the photographs to life. Another way to utilise the season in which Mother’s Day falls is by having an outdoor lifestyle photography session. Of course, the British weather is unpredictable, particularly at the end of March, but there is a good chance it could bring skies filled with glorious sunshine or trees twinkling with the soon to be departing frost. What is certain, is that the borders and branches will be bursting into life with an abundance of verdant green leaves, plump buds and splashes of colour from the already blooming daffodils, hellebores and camellias.

I’ve always found the most successful lifestyle photoshoots are the ones where I snap families doing everyday tasks and activities, be it a mum-to-be hanging up freshly washed sleepsuits in anticipation of her new arrival, a new mum reading books to her little one or a more established mum preparing and eating dinner with her older children – and perhaps, to bring in a third generation, with her mum too!

Mother’s Day photography sessions aren’t exclusively for mothers, in the traditional sense of the word – a woman who births and rears her own biological children. There can be many other people in a child’s life who can be mother figures—stepmothers, grandmothers, guardians, carers, aunts and friends, to name but a few—and Mothering Sunday is about honouring them too.

Whatever stage of motherhood you are in, and whatever type of mother figure you are, I have the photography session for you. I offer a range of lifestyle photography sessions which can be tailored to Mother’s Day – and your family’s interpretation of it:

One of these sessions would also make the perfect two-in-one Mother’s Day gift – a fun-filled photo shoot and a cherished selection of photographs to remember this special day by.
