Book Your Couples’ Photoshoot For Valentine’s Day
February is filled with cold, crisp days that can see us swathed in glorious winter sunshine. We’ve made it through the January blues and, with the onset of spring, the snowdrops and crocuses begin to give way to daffodils and primroses. And, of course, February is the month in which we celebrate love! The 14th of February marks the most romantic day of the year –the day we traditionally share a candlelit meal with our beloved and shower them with gifts of chocolates and red roses.
But if you’re tired of the same old, same old, you could try something different this year with an outdoor lifestyle photography session. So, lace up those walking boots and hike into the hills for your Valentine’s couples’ photoshoot.
Edinburgh and beyond
I’m so lucky to be able to call Edinburgh my home and there’s nothing I love more than exploring the stunning countryside that lies just a stone’s throw from the city centre. I highly recommend choosing a rural location for your Valentine’s Day couples’ photoshoot. As the fresh air fills your lungs and the wind whips through your hair, I’ll be on hand to capture the intimate moments between you and your partner. The smallest of details can often be the most powerful – locked eyes, clasped hands, a gentle touch to the arm.
So, if your share my love for wild, natural landscapes, you might like to check out some of my favourite locations for Valentine’s Day photo sessions:
Pentland Hills
Jump in the car or hop on a bus for a trip to the spectacular Pentland Hills. This area of natural beauty offers breathtaking scenery – and walks galore for the more active amongst us. The hills provide a dramatic backdrop, and if you’re up to walking to the top, panoramic views of the landscape and the city beyond. The reservoirs scattered around the foothills attract an abundance of wildlife, some of which may make it into your photos if you’re lucky!
Bonaly Country Park
Sitting to the northwest of the Pentland Hills is Bonaly Country Park where a romantic walk through the woodland will lead you to Torduff Reservoir – another haven for wildlife. The dappled light beneath the canopy of trees will add a magical quality to your couples’ photographs. Upon reaching the reservoir you can soak up the glorious sights of the Edinburgh skyline whilst I snap away.
St. Abbs
If you want to venture a little further from Edinburgh, the remote fishing village of St Abbs is the perfect location for a wild and windswept photoshoot. Framed by towering cliffs brimming with nesting seabirds, and offering breathtaking views of the Berwickshire coast, this rugged coastline is well worth travelling to. The scenic clifftop walk will make for incredible photographs, as will the lovely sandy beach. Coldingham Bay is a favourite of surfers so if the beauty of crashing waves is on your list of wants, you can be sure it’ll tick that box.
Make a day of it
If you can, why not make the whole day a Valentine’s extravaganza? However, when it comes to planning it out, it’s worth bearing in mind when the light is at its best. My favourite time of day to shoot is sunset. And whenever the skies are cloudy the results will be wonderful.
Take full advantage of your chosen location by taking a walk after your couples’ photoshoot is all wrapped up. You’ll most certainly work up an appetite after all that exercise so you could treat yourself to a delicious meal at a restaurant afterwards. Add the element of surprise by keeping it a secret from your loved one and enjoy the look on their face when you make the big reveal! What Valentine’s Day means to you
But Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romantic love – it can be the perfect opportunity to celebrate the love with your kids by booking a family photography session. And don’t forget Galentine’s Day! If you have a friend who’s going through a tough time or you just want to show someone how much their friendship means to you, a couples’ photoshoot with a twist could be just the thing.
What’s more, my collection of printed photobooks means that you can turn this shared experience into tangible memories – you can read more about what I offer here.
