My Simple Guide To Booking a Family Lifestyle Photoshoot
So, you’ve decided you’d like to book a lifestyle photography session – exciting! There’s no better way to keep special memories alive than with beautifully shot photographs that can be pored over again and again by an infinite number of eyes.
If you’ve not done this before, it can seem a little daunting. To make the process less overwhelming, I’ve put together a step-by-step guide so you know exactly what to expect. From initial enquiry through to receiving the physical product(s) – it’s all here.
I want your journey to be enjoyable and memorable for all the right reasons. Have a read and I’ll guide you through how it works:
Step 1: Research is your friend
There are many family photographers out there to choose from – so how do you know which one to go for? My advice? Do plenty of research. One of the best things about photography is there’s a huge range of different shooting and editing styles so, it’s a good idea to find a photographer with a portfolio that speaks to you. If your vibe is natural, free-spirited and perhaps a little adventurous, I’d love to hear from you! .

Step 2: Make an enquiry
Now it’s time to pop on to my website and fill out the contact form. It can be as simple or as detailed as you wish to make it – but it’s worth knowing that the more information you provide, the faster and smoother the booking process will be. So, fill in your name and contact details, and select the type of session you’re after. You have a choice of family, maternity, newborn and couples photoshoots so just pick what’s best suited to you. (Please be aware that I don’t offer sessions for extended family or family gatherings.)
You’ll see there’s a blank message box at the bottom. Here you can add any extra information about the kind of photography session you’re after. Do you have a date in mind? Would you like to be photographed at home or in a special place somewhere outdoors? Feeling unsure? I have lots of amazing location recommendations! And you can read about some of them here and here.
Step 3: I’ll get back to you
After your contact form has winged its way to my inbox, I aim to be in touch within 24 hours. We’ll work out all the arrangements such as date, time and location so we’ll be all set for your photoshoot.
Step 4: The paperwork
Once we’ve finalised all the details, I’ll send over the contract and invoice along with a short questionnaire. After you’ve signed the contract and paid the deposit, you’re all booked in!
Your answers to the questionnaire will give me a sneaky peek into what makes you tick. I’ll learn more about you and your family and gain a deeper understanding of what exactly it is you want from your photography session. Afterall, this isn’t just a bunch of photos – I want you to have a treasure trove of memories.
Step 5: Planning and preparation
So that you can get the most out of your photoshoot, I’ll share my comprehensive ‘Client Session Guide’. This is bursting with valuable tips, recommendations and essential information that’ll make sure you’re prepped and ready on the day.
Is there something I missed? I’m always happy to answer any questions you may have so feel free to get in touch.

Step 6: The big day
It’s what you’ve been waiting for – the day of your photoshoot! Hopefully you’ll be excited but relaxed and ready to let me do my thing. I’ll be clicking away with my camera on the periphery while you and your family can just get on being your lovely selves.
You can read all about my different photography sessions on my blog. There are lots of useful nuggets to help you get the most out of a shoot – such as How I approach Family Lifestyle Photography and, a handy one if you have little ones, How to Prepare Children for a Family Photography Session.
Step 7: Choosing your images
Around two or three weeks after your photoshoot, you’ll receive an email from me with a link to a preview gallery. Have fun going through all the pics and choosing your faves. The number of photos you can select will depend on your package – but it’ll be either 10, 15 or 40 images. I’ll work my magic with some final edits and deliver them to you within a week – ta da!
Step 8: Ordering print products
I offer printed products for every taste and requirement, from giftable mini photobooks to canvasses perfect for creating gallery walls. You can find out more by reading Gifts to cherish: family photographs for loved ones. And if you’re still unsure on what to buy, I’m more than happy to help you decide.
And that’s that! If you’d like to book your own lifestyle photography session, simply fill in my contact form and I’ll be in touch.
